With only a short time to go before Reality Check for Leaders is published, I want to talk about one aspect of the book I had not until recently considered. As other people read the galley proof, the one consistent comment I get is that the approach developed would be useful in a number of formal and informal circumstances.
For example, I deal in the book with a concept centered on the idea that people pursue personal payoffs. An extension of that is the idea that leaders in all aspects of life have to face the sometimes difficult reality that some people never grow up. Freud called them narcissists, I call them self-centered. Whatever the term, people placed in a position of leadership should understand that in some instances the individuals they are dealing with will take instant gratification over any long term but delayed gain every time.

The foundation for this book was formed over my years of leading various organizations. A national recognized Graduate School of Management, A community bank the evolved into an international financial institution and a 1000 acre residential country club community that hosted NCAA and the Bing Crosby Charity Golf Tournament.
While those organizations helped establish the core thinking for Reality Check Leadership (RCL) it was the hotel business that created the frustrations and challenges that lead to my current thinking.
Incredibly high employee turnover, low performance behavior and managerial burnout were always considered constraints that we in the hospitality industry had to live with. No more—With (RCL) those impossible situations become solvable problems.

TUESDAY MAY 15, 2007
I am a few months away from publishing my first book on leadership. Reality Check for Leaders is a book intended for those interested in succeeding in the Hospitality Industry. If you currently are working in or a student of the hospitality industry, this book can really help. You can go to www.directionsforhospitality.com to find out what the reviewers are saying about the book.
I will use this site to create and research various elements of human behavior at work. You response will be read and welcomed. Maybe.
